Your Health Is Greatly Determined By Your Diet

Being in the health and wellness field for over eleven years, nine of which as a Nutritionist I have seen many diseases and heard every reason under the sun as to the cause of those ailments.  I agree that there are many influences that contribute the development of many of today’s common diseases.  Genetics, stress, environmental toxicity and just pure luck, seem to all have a place in development of most conditions I work around.  However there is one factor that has in my opinion the biggest impact on your health and your risk for most diseases and that is your diet.

What you put into your body directly determines your health.  Eat like crap and feel like….. I am sure I don’t have to fill in that blank.  Eat nourishing life giving foods and feel nourished and full of life!  Our body has the amazing ability to heal and repair itself and it is always striving to be in a place of health and balance.  The Foods We Choose To Eat Either Build Upon Health And Wellness Or They Are Encouraging Disease And Illness.

Lets look at Type Two Diabetes for example.  Elevated blood sugar levels over long periods of time (from eating the wrong foods – such as high glycemic foods), causes the body to continually produce insulin.  Eventually the body’s cells become resistant to insulin resulting in insulin resistance aka Type Two Diabetes.  How about High blood pressure. Lets take look at the dietary link to HBP. Modern diets tend to be high in sodium which is a known contributor to HBP.  Also it is well documented that fruits and vegetables are cardio protective, and yet most of us do not eat the minimum 10 servings a day.  What about cancer, it thrives in a low oxygen, acidic environment. Those who eat more fruits and vegetable daily (high in oxygen and alkalizing) statistically have a significant reduction in their risk for most cancers. Most of us know this, and yet I see people daily in clinic who some days eat less than a single serving of a in natural form serving of fruit or vegetables. Which leads me to……
