Do you have Metabolic Syndrome? Check and see!

Do you suffer from Metabolic Syndrome?
Metabolic syndrome is a serious and very common health concern. According to stats Canada 1 in 5 Canadians are considered to suffer form it!  The American Heart Association states that 35% of Americans are already diagnosed with metabolic syndrome with anticipation the numbers will rise substantially if we don’t create programs to address and prevent this condition.  This is quickly becoming a very serious health crisis in the developed world we are even starting to see it in our children!

What is Metabolic Syndrome?
Metabolic Syndrome is a medical term used to define a group of medical concerns that lead to increased risk for diabetes, heart disease, cancer and premature death.

If you have TWO of any of the following health concerns you can be classified under the category of metabolic syndrome:
- Are you overweight?
- Have elevated fasting blood sugar
- Have elevated blood pressure?
- Have elevated triglycerides?
- Have elevated cholesterol (particularly high LDL and low HDL)
- Have a waist circumference over 40” in men, and 35” in women

What happens when you have Metabolic Syndrome?
Metabolic syndrome results in elevated insulin levels due to insulin resistance.

When your insulin levels remain high due to insulin resistance the following health concerns often result:
- Chronic inflammation
- Inability to lose weight
- Sodium retention
- Suppressed immune function
- Uncontrolled hunger and cravings
- Damage to arterial walls increasing risk for heart attack and stroke or loss of limbs
- Thickening of blood increasing risks for blood clots (thrombosis)
- Increased susceptibility to cancer
(these are only a few)

Causes of Metabolic Syndrome
All of us are at risk of developing this condition as the primary cause is dietary.  Metabolic Syndrome is a hormonal imbalance linked to high glycemic diets, eating processed food, drinking soda, drinking alcohol, a lack of physical exercise and genetic predisposition, just to name a few.

Why Medication is not the solution
If you have elevated cholesterol, blood pressure or high fasting sugar you are likely prescribed to take medication to help manage these.  And although we DO NOT recommend you discontinue your medication, it is important for you to know that these medications are only managing the symptoms, they are not correcting the problem.  Many of these medications have serious side effects and after long term consumption they can have damaging effects on your health!  The only PERMANENT solution that will correct Metabolic Syndrome is Diet and Lifestyle!

What is the Treatment for Metabolic Balance?
Your physician will recommend that you take a medication to deal with the imbalances in lipid profile, blood pressure and blood sugar, and until you correct and help heal your body that is exactly what you must do.  There is however the opportunity for you to get off these medications by correcting your diet and lifestyle.  That is where Metabolic Balance comes in.

What is Metabolic Balance?
Metabolic Balance® is a holistic food based approach to "resetting" your body’s metabolism and regulating your hormones to naturally reach your ideal weight, whether you need to lose weight or gain weight.   The foundation of metabolic balance is backed by over 25 years of scientific research and over 800,000 plans managed by dedicated physicians and nutritional scientists.

The basis of the program is the creation of a personalized nutrition plan for each individual, based on their medical history, unique blood values, and personal characteristics. A personal nutrition plan acts as a “road-map” that will provide specific food selections to create the biochemical changes needed for reaching your desired weight and health goals.
